Jul. 15, 2005 - 4:47 am Did anyone catch the reality show Hooking Up last night? If not, it airs on ABC on Thursday nights and the bases of it is to follow around eleven women in their quest for love by online dating for a year. Maybe because they're in the Big Apple their online dating seems a hell of a lot different than mine, but let me tell ya, I wish mine went like that! Living in a small town, there isn't much to do or many places to go so you end up in a Denny's for coffee and maybe even dinner. But just as in Sleepless in Seattle, I would rather meet for just drinks (in my case, just coffee) instead of dinner because: 1. It leaves your mouth open for more conversation, 2. You don't have to worry about him seeing you slurp spaghetti sauce all over your face and, 3. The estimated time to drink coffee is roughly half an hour so if you're not feeling it then you're not stuck there. One of the females on the show is named Cynthia and she is definately very forward! I admire that in her because, for instance, she was meeting a guy who had said he was 30-something in his profile and set up a picture that was taken fifteen years ago and when he showed up, he was visibly older than 30-something and not the model looking type he was when he was actually in his 30s. Right up front she said that she was aggrevated because she had basically been deceived from the get-go. Had it been me I would've smiled, said it was alright and carried out with the date even tho I would be furious inside. She cut the date short by going into the ladies room, calling a friend from her cellphone and telling them to call the restaurant in 10 minutes so she can act like it's an emergency call so she could get out of there. That was very clever so remember to pack your cellphone on you, even if you keep it off until you need to call out. So. My question is, do you/would you do the Internet dating and if you have, would you recommend it? Why or why not? The Plan: Just getting general thoughts.
